Global Times Living History: Understanding Culture, Society, and Politics The subject–using the insights of anthropology, sociology and political science–aims to provide the students an understanding of how culture, society, and politics affect a country’s current human development goals. In the course of the study the students shall develop awareness of cultural, social, and political dynamics; sensitivity to cultural diversity; social inclusiveness; prejudices and exclusions; as well as the required social and cultural competence to guide interactions with groups, communities, networks, and institutions in the realization of national development goals. Help the students understand what factors make for an effective country development plan; Critique development plans given the country’s varied ethnicities (culture), social classes (rich, middle, poor), genders, (men, women, lesbians, transgenders), religious affiliations (Christian, Muslim, indigenous belief systems), education (literate, illiterate); Understand how these divisions would require openness to differences, an ability to understand and appreciate cultural, social, and political variations and prejudices through insights on culture, society, and politics gained from the perspectives of anthropology, sociology, and political science; help put in place a national development plan that is responsive to the needs of the population given the complexity of the problems at hand.
