GTLH: Practical Research 1: Qualitative Research equips senior high school studentswith the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to plan and conduct research on a topic of interest utilizing qualitative methods. As the book provides an introduction to the discipline of research, a chapter of the book briefly defines what is meant by research, and expounds on how the discipline is different from other ways of knowing. A brief explanation of qualitative research, its various approaches, and its strengths and weaknesses are presented. Consequently, the book guides its readers through all the stages of research from identifying a research topic, to fleshing out the introduction to one’s research, to reviewing related literature, to developing a research design, to gathering data through interviews and observation, analysis and working out conclusions and recommendations. The book also provides a background on the research report as well as the presentation of one’s study. As an introductory text, the book uses a conversational tone. Explanations and techniques covered were purposively simplified. Doing so allows it to take its readers by the hand to actually conduct their own research projects. Lessons were developed with the expectation that learners will immediately be applied rather than left as abstract ideas.
