Social Sciences in a Globalizing World: Interdisciplinary Perspectives for Filipino Students employs the different perspectives of the social sciences and discusses basic concepts, subjects, and methods of inquiry in order for us to go beyond our individual circumstances and seek other forms of knowing to arrive at a more scientific view of the complex and patterned operations of society and culture. It intends to defamiliariaze the familiar. It demonstrates how human social and cultural life is far more complex than what common sense tells us. It challenges commonly held beliefs that we often take as true because we are accustomed to experiencing them on a daily basis. By following the K to 12 basic education curriculum guide and using the Understanding by Design framework, this textbook equips the Filipino youth with skills in the social sciences, aiming to develop in the students these three qualities: empirically-driven, reflexive, and critical. In this book, the ideas and theories forwarded by influential thinkers are also contextualized to Philippine social realities in order for students to be able to use these in analyzing their own situation. The textbook also comes with a detailed learning guide with curriculum map.
